The Art Carr Winters SideWinder Shifter for GM 4L80E Transmission gives off-road and performance builders positive mechanical control over gear selection in a simple, rugged package. Instead of relying on spring-loaded shift levers, the SideWinder uses a stepped steel gate with physical stops to guide the shifter through each gear position, making it well suited for rock crawlers, buggies, tube chassis builds, race vehicles, and other hard-use 4L80E applications.
A mechanical guard built into the gate helps prevent an accidental shift from a forward gear into Reverse. The driver must intentionally move the shift rod through the Reverse offset in the gate before Reverse can be selected. The shifter arrives fully assembled in its console and includes a 5-foot cable and linkage hardware for connecting it to the transmission.

For custom mounting, the Wide Open Design Winters Shifter Console Mount provides a pre-drilled mounting solution for the SideWinder housing.
The SideWinder gives the driver positive mechanical gear selection through a gated design with physical stops. For off-road and racing applications where the shifter gets used aggressively, the simple mechanical layout provides a direct and repeatable way to control the 4L80E.
Most factory-style 4L80E transmissions use a Standard Gate. A transmission with a reverse manual valve body may require a Reverse Gate so the shifter sequence matches the transmission. Verify your valve body and shift pattern before ordering.
The steel gate incorporates a mechanical barrier between the forward gears and Reverse. The driver must intentionally guide the shift rod through the offset in the gate before Reverse can be selected.
The included 5' cable works for many front-engine installations, but cable requirements depend on shifter position, transmission location, chassis layout, and routing. Long-wheelbase, rear-engine, or unusual tube chassis layouts may require a different cable length.
Set the 4L80E transmission and SideWinder shifter in Neutral before adjusting the cable at the transmission linkage. After adjustment, verify that the transmission fully engages every gear position before operating the vehicle.
