The Wide Open Design Evolution Rock Crawler Chassis was developed for drivers who want a compact, aggressive buggy capable of dominating steep climbs, tight woods trails, and competitive off-road racing environments. Inspired by the demand for a smaller Hill Killer style chassis, the Evolution combines strength, performance, and a clean, aggressive design into a highly capable two-seat rock crawler platform.
At just 50" wide, the Evolution chassis is ideal for navigating tight trails while still supporting big horsepower engines, full width axles, and large off-road tires. The chassis incorporates many design concepts from our larger buggy platforms but packages them into a tighter footprint. The result is a buggy that is extremely capable in the woods and on steep climbs while maintaining the durability expected from a Wide Open Design chassis.
The Evolution features a laid back A-pillar, shorter rear section, slightly shortened front end, and a lower roofline, giving the buggy a sleek profile while improving climbing performance and center of gravity characteristics.
The Evolution chassis was designed to deliver maximum capability in a smaller footprint. While many buggies prioritize interior space, the Evolution focuses on agility, climbing performance, and durability, making it ideal for tight wooded trails and aggressive hill climbs.
Strategic use of .188 wall DOM tubing in high impact areas strengthens the chassis while keeping overall weight under control. This heavy duty reinforcement helps prevent dents or structural damage during hard off-road use while still allowing the chassis to remain relatively lightweight.
Replaceable .188 wall rock sliders protect the sides of the chassis and can easily be replaced if damaged. The chassis also incorporates removable drivetrain crossmembers connected using tube flange sets, allowing drivetrain components to be installed or removed much more easily during the build process or future maintenance.
The rear chassis section provides space for a 15-gallon fuel cell and a fabricated toolbox or cooler, allowing builders to carry essential tools or supplies for longer trail rides.
